small business1 Rescuing Your Business During a RecessionAt a time when companies are closing down, longtime employees are being laid off, unemployed people are struggling to create their own opportunities, and the market is uncertain, either you struggle to stay afloat or you rise above. Falling down to your business’ demise should never be an option.

Here are some simple, helpful ways in order for you to save your business from crumbling down:

1. Expand your network. If collaborating with people coming from various fields is something you didn’t usually do before, it’s about time that you do so if only to widen your learning and your business horizon. Collaborations lead you to new and even unexpected opportunities. Most of the time, working with others against working alone gives better results for each other’s businesses.

2. Keep your optimism. In times like this, it is easy to lose hope. But if you do, prepare to see that attitude affect the health of your business. Optimism gives you the drive to do more and leads you to more possibilities, alternatives and solutions. Optimism also has a good effect on your employees. If they see in their employer that hope floats for the company, they will stay positive and keep doing their work well.

3. See the challenge, not the problem. Nothing is ever permanent. The unfavorable things that come will soon pass. That’s why if you see the economic situation as a lasting problem for your business, you may do nothing about it. But if you see this situation as a challenge, it means you will look for ways to do something about it. You will make better use of your skills, time, and resources than ever before until such time that opportunities and more buyers will come to you.

4. Forge new ties. Forging partnerships with trusted and established brands that are connected to your target market will give you more exposure and more chances for increased cash flow. Also, associating your company with related local government groups and community organizations in your area will help build your business credibility as you share and teach them your expertise.

5. Same value, lower prices. The trick to attract more people to go for your products or services during lean times is to offer them lower prices, of course without reducing the value, for a specific period of time. This gives them the opportunity to avail of your product or service while it is discounted. Cut the prices of your products that are most useful to your market. This way, money will keep coming in, and you will have more buyers as well.

6. Give rewards. From time to time, give your buyers perks or incentives, especially your longtime buyers. This will give them the impression that you value their loyalty, and increase the probability they will tell their friends and acquaintances about your business.

7. Cut down on costly operating costs. Conduct an audit on your company equipment, materials, licenses and even energy use. If you think you can operate your business for less in another location, you may consider relocating if this would not seriously affect your business and clients.

In all these, the key word is practicality for the sake of keeping your business in business.
