My wife and I retired last year and after 8 months of doing nothing, I decided to get a part time job. The extra money helps but I also think getting to interact with people and being active 20 hours a week keeps me both mentally and physically fit.

I like watching HGTV shows like Designed to Sell and the Stagers. Between tips I learned on those shows, and the tips mentioned above like finding a great real estate agent and offering incentives, we sold our house this spring in less than 60 days!

I just signed up for a plan in my area. For $115 a year I get free xrays and reduced rate on cleanings plus peace of mind knowing I will pay less if I need something major like a root canal. Sign up was pretty easy and I like that I have 30 days to cancel.

Unless you are desparate for money (say high medical bills) it seems foolish to take out a home equity loan in these current conditions. High employment and falling housing prices makes it so risky. Maybe I’m missing something?

Another tip is if you have say a light fixture or drapes that you plan on taking with you – replace it now before you start showing. Remember potential buyers fall in love with what they see and nothing is more diasspointing than a bunch of exclusions!

If you are a great student and one college offered you an awesome scholarship but you first-choice came in with a so-so offer, call them and see if they will match it. Let them know why they are your first choice and be ready to send a copy of the competing institution’s financial-aid. Some colleges have this policy so it never hurts to ask!

Interesting I have never heard of such dental plans. My plan is through work & is not very good, so maybe this would be a better solution for spending less money. Defintely something I will look in to!
